XAMPP is a multi-platform package that installs Apache, MySQL, PHP, phpMyAdmin, and other software for dynamic web development on your computer. Installation is painless, and configuration minimal. This page guides you through installing the XAMPP package on Windows.
First, we need to download the software from: ApacheFriends.org
Select the Installer option it should be roughly 66MB in size. Save the file to your desktop or your downloads directory.
Next, double-click the .exe file you downloaded. A window will open asking you to select the language you’d like to use. Choose a language from the menu, and then click OK.
Click the Next button. The install wizard suggests installing the application on your main drive in C:\XAMPP. Leave it on the default directory and then click Next.
Next, if you do a lot of web development I would suggest installing apache and MySQL as a service, so the apps start everytime your computer starts. if you don't do a lot of web development don't place check-marks in the boxes. You will just have to start the services when you need them.
Next, click Install. The installer will install all the files onto your system. The install process may take awhile to complete depending on the speed of your box.
Next, click Finish. The install wizard will then ask you if you wish to start the XAMPP control panel, click on Yes to open the control panel.
Next, start the apache service and the MySQL service by clicking on Start as seen in the diagram below. If you get a windows security alert click the Unblock button.
Next, we need to see if everything is working. We can do this by launching a web browser (internet explorer or firefox) and in the address bar type in http://localhost You should now see the XAMPP control panel.
Once installed, you can navigate to http://localhost/xampp to view your xampp home page.
