How do I restore the recycle bin in Vista? Did you accidentally delete the recycle bin in Vista? It isn’t hard to do, I have done it numerous times, and believe me it isn’t hard to make the mistake so don’t feel bad about it. Yes, even geeks like myself make mistakes. As you can see from the screenshot below it isn’t hard to click the wrong thing.

Follow these instructions to restore the vista recycle bin:

  • Navigate to Control Panel|Personalize and then click on the link Change Desktop Icons on the left-hand side.
  • Place a checkmark in the box for the recycle bin as illustrated below.
  • Click Apply and Ok and you are done.

Once the file is downloaded just double click the file to add the information to the registry. What am I adding to the registry? The contents of the file include the following:

Once you have added the information to the registry you will notice from the diagram below that the delete option has moved above the command for empty recycle bin.
