The other day I wrote an article on how important it is to backup your computer data. You are probably thinking; what folder are all my emails stored in? What folder holds all of the favorites and or bookmarks? How do I find these folders? Today’s lesson will be on how to find your email and favourites on your particular windows operating system.
In order to find all of your data let’s make sure we can see all of our data first. Read about how to view hidden files and how to view file extensions in Windows operating systems.
In Windows XP you can find all of your outlook express email .dbx files stored along with the address book, which reside in subfolders at the following paths:
In Vista you are using a program called Windows Mail 7 which is basically outlook express reinvented. The path to the .dbx files are located here: C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Mail
In XP the default location of the .pst file for Outlook resides in the following location C:\Documents and Settings\ username\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\
In Windows 7 and Vista the default location of the Outlook .pst file resides in C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook
In Microsoft Windows XP all of your favorites are stored in C:\Documents and Settings\username\Favorites
In Windows 7 and Vista the favorites folder is stored in C:\Users\username\Favorites
Firefox stores bookmarks in the following location C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles. Open the folder inside this Profiles folder (you may have more than one if you have multiple Firefox profiles), then find “bookmarks.html” That is all of your bookmarks in one file.
